I honed my expertise on notable projects including designing the Online Practical Driving Test Application on GOV.UK and co-designing local services with London Borough of Barnet Council citizens.
User-centred design leadership | Paper Design Studio
February 2022 – Present
Enthusiastically mentoring a confidante and previous colleague in their education delivered via the Interaction Design Foundation to learn user-centred design. The syllabus covers the fundamentals of user-centred design. I provide accountability to my mentee and capture any false limits, roadblocks or barriers they have. Where appropriate, I challenge those false limits by seeking to reframe them based on my personal experiences.
Introduced a research ethics review process to avoid non-conformance and identify occurrences sooner.
Contributed to the research pattern library and anti-racism strategy to remove or reduce racial bias from research.
Co-designed and facilitated our generative and formative research approach on an Alpha Service with the Department for Education. Research goals and stakeholder priorities were defined and prioritised within 3-week Agile cycles.
Scrutinising prior discovery research enabled us to revisit inconclusive data and identify gaps for inclusion in our research plan. We tested our riskiest assumptions, for example, the need for an IT solution.
Worked with the DfE to define an approach to data protection (including who should or should not be allowed access to personally identifiable data and options for research data storage).
Ran a research analysis workshop with our team and senior stakeholders to create a shared understanding and build empathy for our users.
Convalescence | Health and well-being
August 2019 – February 2022
Following a decline in my mental well-being, I was diagnosed with the combined type of ADHD in June 2021. Titrated medication and support followed, enabling my recovery. During this time, I worked for a year as a lease car delivery and collection driver, part-time barista, and 16 months as a full-time parent to my daughter, born in January 2020.
User-centred design leadership | Sky Betting & Gaming
February 2016 – August 2019
Leaded and motivated high-performing product teams on design whilst advocating user-centred design and customer insight.
Researched with people with diverse needs to design accessible and inclusive services within the account registration and management of online betting and gaming.
User-centred design leadership | Next Group Plc.
November 2014 – February 2016
Used strategic and policy objectives to plan and prioritise evaluative and summative research that measured services within account registration, management, and e-commerce checkout. I used these objectives to negotiate priorities for research within FCA legislation criteria.
Hired new talent and allocated people to projects within the account management work stream.
Responsible for line management, support, and mentoring of four meticulous team members

I can develop, review and constructively criticise the research and ideas of others. I provide advice, guidance, and mentoring on conducting research.
My reflective practice identifies benefits, pitfalls, and legal obligations in my research and those of others. This enables adequate assessment of the benefit-to-risk/harm ratio that is proportionate within a research ethics framework.
I agree on research goals and methods and perform research projects to generate original ideas. I select, adopt, and adapt data collection tools and techniques as required.
I can facilitate and lead research planning and iterative goal setting with a multidisciplinary team at any stage in the design of a service. This extends to stakeholders, and people with no service design or digital experience to understand their questions/challenges, create a plan, set goals, and conduct research that answers their questions.
I share practical demonstrations of research findings. The contribution of significant sections of publication-quality material and presenting reports to clients is included.
I can pick out quotes and insights that help stakeholders understand complex problems and to persuade stakeholders who are resistant to changes.
I can turn complex information (such as process diagrams or extensive analysis work) into easy-to-understand and digestible documentation. I proactively seek feedback to improve presentations and documents.
I contribute to research goals and funding proposals. Plans include collecting and analysing qualitative and quantitative data as required.
I can understand a problem and justify my choice of method (and tools) to the team and a client. I can evaluate the need and assess the safety of new research tools.
I can support Research Ops and recruitment agencies in designing screeners and planning multiple recruitment routes. I can comfortably handle conversations with stakeholders about representation, sample size, and prioritisation.
I am fully conversant in ethical research conduct, understand the Information Commissioner's Office guide to data regulation in the UK and the responsibilities as either a processor or controller of data. I can peer review research plans to ensure they are ethically sound and meet the applicable regulatory duties.
I design a structured sequence of meetings, events or workshops to solve complex problems. I can facilitate semi-structured and unstructured research, adapting to the context and the needs of the participant and my team to gather relevant insights. I can facilitate groups co-designing products, services and systems.

I worked with Kevin […] on several projects [… ], with Kevin leading the User Experience directive of a project whilst I managed the budget, risk, client comms etc. Kevin was outstanding at exploring the relationship between a user and the system, with thorough analysis and thought-provoking conclusions.
He was never afraid to try new solutions to uncover patterns or journeys. Kevin also has a keen eye for design and accessibility. Above anything, he was a dedicated and committed individual, always looking for new ways to extend his qualifications and skillset. An absolute pleasure to work with, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.

“
Kevin is a brilliant UX expert and knows and applies his trade and techniques incredibly well. I am always impressed with how Kevin conducted workshops and sessions to get to the critical user-centred tasks. Clients, partners, staff and users were always highly complimentary of Kevin.
I learnt a lot about the user experience from Kevin, who simplified things in what can be a jargon-filled area. I now know about card sorting techniques and user testing – all thanks to Kevin.

“
Kevin is a UX genius. I’ve never worked with a UX expert with the attention to detail and downright knowledge of his area of expertise as Kevin does. He’s a master at creating usability testing environments and workshops and considers every user’s feedback to mould his vision for a final user experience.
He’s friendly and pragmatic, and I would welcome working with him again in the future.
